Bard in the Valley’s staunch belief in “Shakespeare for all” includes ensuring that our company is a welcome place for people of all ethnicities, religions, creeds, abilities, sexual orientations and gender expressions to participate in our productions. We seek to ensure that a diverse range of voices may be heard, valued and celebrated on and off of our stages through our casting and crew choices, as well as community input and support. We are committed to providing opportunities for a diverse community to contribute to bringing quality theatre to the Fraser Valley, and recognize that this is a goal that is still in progress for us. We commit to working towards this goal and to model this commitment to the Fraser Valley art community. As a company, BIV pledges to provide an inclusive and equitable environment for all staff, audience members, and volunteers. BIV does not tolerate discrimination of any kind towards anyone involved with or attending our productions.
Douglas Park performances are admission-free and by donation.
Since the group’s inception in 2009, Bard in the Valley has presented a Shakespearean production every summer. More than 25,000 people have come to see BIV’s performances.
We are able to provide a free venue with the sales from our ticketed venues. Please come see us at Township 7 Winery and Fort Langley Hall to continue our goal
Every season more than 50 people volunteer their time and energy and share their talents and expertise to create and stage our plays – the actors, crew, technicians, producer, costume designer, set designer, set builder, choreographer, musical director, front of house coordinator, program designer, website coordinator, president and board members are all volunteers.
Bard in the Valley was founded by Allan Thain in 2010.
A visionary, and Rotarian, Allan directed and co-produced the first two Bard in the Valley productions – A Midsummer Night’s Dream and As You Like It.
Allan passed away suddenly in December 2013. We miss his advice, enthusiasm, pithy conversation and sense of humour. His legacy lives on.
